As Director of Amnesty International USA he traveled to Darfur, Sudan, to help redress the humanitarian crisis in that region. He led an Amnesty mission to Liberia as well, to investigate the atrocities committed during the civil war there and in 1999 went again to Northern Ireland to help insure that human rights protections be incorporated in to the peace process there.
He will speak on March 1st at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota at 7 p.m. The subject of his lecture will be “Restoring America’s Credibility: Human Rights in a New Era”.
